LIT ANALYSIS #3

Topics and/or Events
1.) The nonfiction book I read is called Cardboard Gods by Josh Wilker. It is a memoir about his life as a one-year-old in 1969 till his mid-30s in 2005. In this memoir Josh talks about his relationship with baseball and how it's helped him grow up and cope with the problems in his life.

2.)The author Josh Wilker, wrote this book based upon his life, a memoir of his past events.

3.) I chose this book to read because a friend of mine recommended it to me so I gave the book a read and didn't judge the book by its cover. One thing that made me keep reading the book is that it began during my favorite time period the 60s and 70s so I knew of a lot of what was mentioned such as music relations.

4.) I defiantly found the book realistic since it was a memoir of his life. The book does not connect to myself and life, the reason for this is because he had his mother and father but his mother had an affair and all during the while his brother was growing to become a druggie. I do not have a mother nor a brother none of the events that occurred during his life relates to my life and major events.

People
1.) The book is based on the author so all characters are real people in real life and time. So i believe the question is irrelevant.

2.) One of the characters in the story is his brother Ian which has brown curly hair and white pale skin. He reads books and plays baseball. Ian was a big inspiration to Josh and motivated Josh for most of his life. The second character isn't necessary a character but objects which were his baseball cards the cards were TOPPS baseball cards a brand of cards that were collectable items.

3.) The characters/objects were a big significants in his life which inspired or guided him through his life.

4.) One example of direct characterization is when he describes his father as an absent-minded sociologist. Another is when he describes his brother as a young Jim Palmer.

5.) No.

6.) There is no protagonist for it is a memoir/autobiography.

7.) Yes I did because I knew about himself and his life.

END OF THE YEAR ESSAY

My name is Analyssa Brown and I am a student of Dr. Prestons’ Expository Composition class. I have spent almost about 200 days in this class for that’s how many days there have been within this 2014 school year but sadly this is my last year. This being my last year this class has been my favorite out of all my classes I have taken through my 4 years of high school. The first day of my senior year felt like my first day in high school I wasn’t sure what to expect or how this year was even going to be since there was bound to be so much change within my self, my class mates, and overall life. I walked into Dr.Prestons’ class once again since it being my second year taking one of his classes. Reflecting over this school year I have changed my mindset, I have missed a lot of school days but this class being the class that kept me motivated and not giving up on my accomplishments. One thing I have done is I have I improved my writing, well its better than before that’s for sure.  I have also learned is to not treat my classmates as average people but as there my colleagues. My colleagues are all different individuals we may be in the same class but I have learned that we are all completely different. Given how I saw the individuality through each and everyone’s masterpiece projects. I do believe we all earn gratitude for our perseverance and for doing the work, but not all of us should gain the same amount of gratitude. For my masterpiece project I used photography. Once I got into this school year I somewhat lost my motivation for it but once Preston gave us the opportunity to use a passion or a future career I began to find my motivation and passion to pursue photography as a career. And I will also be pursuing photography at Allan Hancock Community College by taking their photography classes and having it as my major.  For the HERO part of this course I don’t want to say I completed all of what I was supposed to do but I did complete most. I do have a mentour to help me when I need photography advice I did conquer the challenge of finding my creativity again. Throughout this course there have been more than many enjoyable moments with Preston and my colleagues I can’t even think of one for their being so many. I can say hands down BEST CLASS EVER!!

BEGGINNINGS 1- My revised version.

it was chilly, goose bumps were laying upon my open arm. California air being the coldest it could be in spring. I look over the rooftop of the parking complex my mind pondering into what I just done. Questioning why I am here. What have I done? that question going on and on through my head. But all doing so I smell the plumeria in my hand- its holds a sweet smell with a hint of her shampoo from when it layed in her hair- I had pulled it out when i held her down-  why did she want to leave? I couldnt let her...

BEGINNINGS

My masterpiece project has defiantly motivated a lot more to pursue photography as a career. For a few months I was starting to just give up on it, I had stopped taking photos, and began loosing interest and just thought whats the point? But now since really seeing how its making me go out there and show my work and gain more clients to build my portfolio and while making a living out of it. It has also given me motivation to get my license faster so I can travel on my own time and take photos out of town.

CONNECTIONS

Well today for instinct I had done a maternity photo shoot and the whole time I was shooting I was stoked on the fact how I will be able to use these photos for my masterpiece project! It gave me a brighter outlook and motivation to really get things done. How fortunate am I and all the other students in the class to be able to do what they love and enjoy when all the while its for an english class project! AWESOME!!!

DESIGN

Hacking my learning environment for my success... Hmmm at first reading this and sorting out what exactly to do is tough. But after some thought and really enforcing the whole aspect of hacking my environment for MY success its plain and simple I would add more art make these bland walls surrounding me with photos that give me motivation to reach that level of talent for example add some Ansel Adams photos around the walls or Annie Leibowitz work. I would also take away the desks in the class room and add mini white boards around the board so the students can add there ideas and collaboration ideas and it will be seen by more people not just in that one class but in all the  class periods. Another factor for not just my success but for everyones to add computers at least 5 for when we do MGOTM we would have full access to a computer so then and there in that moment we can put upon action!

RAISING DIGITAL AWARNESS

It is important to attracted visitors to my site because it enable them, the viewers to see what i am capable of doing weather dealing with academics and/or my artistic potential it also can show my general personality and genuine creativity. I'm not really addressing visitors to my site I do update it as often as possible and do as mush assignments as I can that make sense to me but otherwise I can address visitors a a little more by possibly informing people when I post photos so they can see example of my work to be able to use me and put there full guaranty into my work. Umm.. to choose between digital tools and human interactive both is necessary for my case because I can abuse the digital tools in ways to show my work and human activity is necessary because you work with clients face to face instead of through email or any virtual contact but with human activity you get to learn that person, speak to them in person, see there persona.

SEEKING MENTOR

The person who I would like to have mentor has the knowledge of photography within the camera and business. He knows how to advertise, market, camera settings, lighting for shooting photos, and all sorts of techniques that can help me with my knowledge and how to fine tune what I know. Some questions I can ask my mentor is how to market correctly. How do you remember F/stops and metering. What are some good poses to use for families and couple shoots, etc.

UP TO YOU

I do see my work differently know once realizing the meanings of an "entrepreneur" It allows me to feel more to the business oppurtunity, being able to label my art/photography as something I can "sell" to gain profit off of what I love. The ultimate goal to being able to do something you love and being able to live off it.

MASTERPIECE ESSAY EXPERIENCE (3/14)

Yes, I do see my work differently when I think of myself as am entrepreneur when I think entrepreneur I think of a man or women dressed in a business suite greedy for money and pride. I am someone as seen as a freelance photographer, an artist. Not expecting to sell my photos or business to anyone in particular.

Tuesday, March 11, 2014

I ENTREPRENEUR

(a) I don't really understand the question completely.... :(

(b) I don't think I'm completely an entrepreneur because i'm not investing my money in peoples ideas or my own I'm gaining money from other's so I guess you can by thinking of ideas for photo-shoots and earning money from my art/photo-shoots.

(c.) The idea of entrepreneur ship is simple its just using someone else's idea for-say and investing your money into the idea for it to "grow" . Also with your own ideas you invest money in your own idea and gain full profit.

MASTERPIECE ESSAY

Is a photograph worth 1,000 words? As a photographer withholding an artistic eye, I defintly believe a photograph is worth 1,000 words or even more. When I look at my own photography or even someone else's I can see more than one emotion and more than one subject within. Each photograph ever taken holds a story and we all can makeup that story. For example the photograph, "Migrant Mother", taken by Dorothea Lang in 1936, if you didn't know the history behind the photograph there would be many ideas imagned within that enticing photograph. One individual may question why is the mother looking out into the distance, confused and worried. Holding her head tightly showing every worried wrinkle. Another indivdual may just see the two children; one on the left standing in back off the mother looking down only showing the topside of his head with a bowl cut hairstle. And the other child on the right side of the concerned mother  right side inward of the mother, resting on the mother's shoulder and the other hand resting as it looks like on his face. But all within the question it shows the fact they're dressed in rags. One of the child's hand painted as if in dirt and their shaggy and dirty hair holds the knowing of what we can see within. It's not just this photograph where we can see each detail and question but with every photograph as individuals we wonder, why? Why did such person/artist believe there was potential in the photos we see masked around everything. Photographs catch people's eye. Wheather it being an historic photography, provacative photography, or even just a family portrait taken by a stranger at Disneyland. A photograph holds within it a story. The words to express the emotions towards it can be everlasting.

YOUR TITLE HERE (DRAFT)

What are you passionate about?  What do you want to do? I am very passionate for photography. I want to become a fashion photographer, a photographer for say like; Rolling Stone Magazine, or like Vogue, etc.

How can you use the tools from last semester (and the Internet in general)? I can and do already use the internet to show my work and put it out there I don't use blogger for my photography but I do use Tumblr, and Behance, and Facebook to show my work.

What will I need to do in order to "feel the awesomeness with no regrets" by June? What I will need to do is, figure out what classes I want to take and I will need to take at Hancock and also advertise my photography business more and gain more publicity.

What will impress/convince others (both in your life and in your field)? The ways I will impress others in my life and out is firstly follow my goals and dreams everyone knew I had make photography into something more for myself and continue my education.

How will I move beyond 'What If' and take this from idea --> reality? I will move this "what if" idea into a reality by actually doing all i said I would do, move out of my house by the time I graduate continue my job or receive a better one, and also gain more knowledge in photography.

Who will be the peers, public, and experts in your personal learning network? The peers that will go along with me in this journey will be my boyfriend, family, and very close friends that have been there through every step. The public will be fellow photographer friends and artist in the community. And for the experts in my personal learning network for right now it is my classmates in Dr. Preston's class and Dr.Preston but for once I leave High School i'm not sure at the moment.

HAFTA/WANNA

Once I graduate my plan is to attend Allan Hancock Community College for a year majoring in Photography and save up money. After my first year I plan to move to Portland, Oregon, since these past 2 years of high school, my plans for once I graduate have changed drastically. The similarities from life during high school and life after high school are that no matter what you will still have responsibilities. And the differences of life during high school and after high school is that you're able to make up your own decisions weather to continue your education or not.  I believe there is a significant difference depending on how you decide too live your life after high school. I don't think people will "magically" transform the day after graduation but i think they will gain a different mind set and a realization that you are no longer a kid, you have the ability to make your own decisions and how to live your life. When i do graduate and out of high school I do know my life will change drastically I will be defiantly moving out of my house maybe even before I graduate but possibly once I turn 18 in April, into an apartment of my own, but for sure will have many responsibilities in that case and expectations I will have to meet and I know i'll be able to. I also believe I will be more driven to met my goals since I'm a type of person who can keep a stable mind set once driven. My goal is to prove myself what I thought I was never able to achieve, be able to gain a degree in photography and use my talents to the best of my ability.

OUR CHOICE!

I turned in a paper copy to preston.

VOCAB #1 PERFORMANCE REVIEW

Was not present for vocab quiz.

THE CHOICE!

1. What is the "choice" referred to in the title?
The choice is referred to weather they want to poison there dying daughter or not.

2. Is it a real choice?  Why/why not?  What is the alternative?
For "real choice" I don't think its a choice because she will eventually die with or without it. There is no alternative she is already decaying inside.
3. Why does the author use the word poison in the first line?
To draw your attention and throw you off the story.

4. The author's daughter wants to play with a toy that is intended for older kids.  Why?  Do you agree with her?
Because the daughter feels as if her life is drifting away, her time is running out. Her childhood is slipping from her fingertips and she might as well do as much as she can regardless of the age she is at.

5. If you thought you might not live to the age of 30 what would you want to do right now?
If, I thought I would only live to the age 30 I would do as much as I could. Travel to the most beautifulest places on earth, and eat the most finest and expensive food. I would also sought out to all the adventures I haven't done yet, like skydiving, snorkling, surfing in Hawaii, go on a cruise and just all the things anyone would want to do during there life time.

6. Under what circumstances does it make sense to endure discomfort--or even force it on a loved one-- in service to a greater/more important cause?
So for an example if your mother had cancer and was near death and it was either life support but never the chance for her to get better or just simply pulling the plug because it was either just having her suffering an empty body laying there never to wake up you would have to do what was best for you and your family and decide to pull the plug and let go.

7. Is suffering a necessary condition of life and love?
It's not necessary but for some sacks loving so much does involve suffering. For instinct once your married you love that person of course and they will eventually die from old age I believe most spouses will suffer from the lost of there cap anion.

8. Most readers don't share the author's circumstances, but we feel an emotional response to his words.  Why?
We feel for his words and response because its a touchy subject as is. Death is something that all people feel pain towards and grief.
