The choice is referred to weather they want to poison there dying daughter or not.
2. Is it a real choice? Why/why not? What is the alternative?
For "real choice" I don't think its a choice because she will eventually die with or without it. There is no alternative she is already decaying inside.
3. Why does the author use the word poison in the first line?
To draw your attention and throw you off the story.
4. The author's daughter wants to play with a toy that is intended for older kids. Why? Do you agree with her?
Because the daughter feels as if her life is drifting away, her time is running out. Her childhood is slipping from her fingertips and she might as well do as much as she can regardless of the age she is at.
5. If you thought you might not live to the age of 30 what would you want to do right now?
If, I thought I would only live to the age 30 I would do as much as I could. Travel to the most beautifulest places on earth, and eat the most finest and expensive food. I would also sought out to all the adventures I haven't done yet, like skydiving, snorkling, surfing in Hawaii, go on a cruise and just all the things anyone would want to do during there life time.
6. Under what circumstances does it make sense to endure discomfort--or even force it on a loved one-- in service to a greater/more important cause?
So for an example if your mother had cancer and was near death and it was either life support but never the chance for her to get better or just simply pulling the plug because it was either just having her suffering an empty body laying there never to wake up you would have to do what was best for you and your family and decide to pull the plug and let go.
7. Is suffering a necessary condition of life and love?
It's not necessary but for some sacks loving so much does involve suffering. For instinct once your married you love that person of course and they will eventually die from old age I believe most spouses will suffer from the lost of there cap anion.
8. Most readers don't share the author's circumstances, but we feel an emotional response to his words. Why?
We feel for his words and response because its a touchy subject as is. Death is something that all people feel pain towards and grief.
